BGC provides a wide range of volunteer opportunities – each year, approximately 900 volunteers contribute their time and talents to our Clubs, Programs, Admin, and Special Events. Volunteers are pivotal to help enhance the experiences, opportunities, growth and connection for our kids and youth, to each other and to their community.

Do you have a couple of hours a week to hang out with our amazing kids and youth in our programs?

We have some awesome ways to engage as a volunteer in our Clubs. Our Clubs run in the afterschool hours typically after 3pm and some of our Clubs are open in the evenings, supporting our pre-teen and teens. We have 11 locations to choose from – so there is sure to be a Club near you!

Club Volunteer Opportunities Include

Activity Leader:

Enjoy your time by volunteering with children and youth! In your role as activities volunteer you will assist staff and other volunteers in the different programs offered such as sports, cooking, homework clubs, arts, life skills, fun and social based programs for kids/youth aged 6 to 18 years old. This position offers flexibility, enjoyment, and group setting time with children and youth, as well as allows you as a volunteer to be involved in the programs that interest you! Time commitment is a minimum of 3 months for 2 hours per week.

 

Games Room and Gym Supervisor:

Enjoy time with children and youth supervising, implementing, and playing games in the gym or the games room. This role allows you to play like you used to, while ensuring children and youth are playing appropriately and safely.

 

Arts and Crafts:

Introduce children and youth to their creativity through the use of art and craft mediums. You will aid children and youth ages 6-12 in discovering the joy and pride that comes from artistic endeavors!
We have art programs that cover painting, drawing, recycling, clay and mixed media.

Piano Teacher:

Spread the love of music to children and enlist as a Piano Instructor! You will teach children ages 6 to 12 the basic use of a piano, basic skills, and basic songs! Focus is on fun and building confidence and openness to sharing music from a beginner to intermediate level. Monday to Friday, 3 to 7pm, 2 hours per week for 3 months. Piano is offered at our Fraserview Club.

 

Cooking and baking instructor:

Love to cook? Then share your knowledge of basic nutrition and cooking skills with children/youth ages 6 to 18. Must be able to change skill level with age. This will be taught in a fully equipped kitchen at the club. No formal training required, just a good knowledge of the basics!

 

High School Tutor:
  • Raise the Grade Program: 
    • LOCATIONS: Fraserview Club – 7595 Victoria Drive, Vancouver / Kimount Club – 395 East 6th Ave, Vancouver / Langley Club – 5409A 206th Street, Langley
    • Raising the Grade is a program that is offered in three of our Clubs. The program is located in a tech space designed for students to be supported academically through tutoring and mentoring. Volunteers will be involved in tutoring students in academic subjects, and, if interested will take part in acting as technical resources, who have a sound knowledge of computers, and high school subjects. Volunteers will be paired with students seeking academic support in subjects the volunteers are comfortable with. Our Tech Centres have a variety of resources, including work spaces, text books and computers
  • Best Buy Teen Tech Centre: Hillside Club – 11339-84th Avenue, North Delta
    • This is a space where youth and children are able to develop digital fluency and express themselves through technology. With the guidance of staff and collaboration with their peers, participants are able to take ownership of their own learning process and work on projects that are personally meaningful to them. Through exploring their ideas and interests, they are also able to develop skills and knowledge which may lead to future career opportunities that otherwise may have not been there. Experience with one or more technologies is required for this volunteer position including: Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, etc.), musical instruments and/or musical/sound equipment and programs (Ex. Pro-tools), videography and/or photography equipment, graphic/digital design, 3D design/rendering/printing, Virtual reality and Augmented reality.

 

Family Drop in Ladner and North Delta – Early years Assistant:

BGC supports runs and Family Drop in Hub in Ladner, BC. The volunteer early years assistant will support staff, care, help with craft prep and general program needs in pre-school aged children in a social/recreational/early learning setting.
